Rivendale,
Alsop-On Le-Dale,
Ashbourne,Derbyshire.
Open all Year.
We have visited Rivendale caravan site several times over the years, it is set in a disused quarry, I know this doesn't sound very appealing but over the years the plant life has found it's way into the nooks and cranny's of the rock and grown to make it feel quite unique. Birds also nest on the ledges so there is always something to see.
The site is popular at most times of the year because of it's locality and easy access to the
Tissington trail a disused railway for cycling and walking, which runs 13 miles from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay where it joins the High Peak trail. Apart from the wonderful views and patchwork fields there are many of the old railway features which have been retained along the way including some of the old bridges which are always a joy to cycle under and of course a shout is a necessity to hear the wonderful echo. There are many places to choose for a rest and a picnic to take in the views......ah wonderful,.............. this area has to be one of my favorites at any time of the year.
Most of the pitches are of hard standings there is camping area where tents can pitch on grass. The facilities are heated and kept nice and clean.
For entertainment there is a pub and restaurant on site, The Prancing pony, which is in a converted barn, on occasions there are disco's and themed nights.
