Strid Wood, Near Skipton Yorks

Strid wood is situated a couple of miles from Bolton Abbey and about 8 miles from Skipton, it was Easter 2006 when we stayed here on the Caravan Club site,
which is at the top of the wood by the visitor centre.
I remember it well because Al was taken ill with a nasty chest infection a day or so into our stay, after a visit to the doctor at Skipton he was given antibiotics and confined to bed for a couple of days. The dogs and I decided to set off and explore the area.
A pathway winds through the wood down to the river Warfe at the bottom, the strid can be found further along it is where the river narrows and rushes with force over the rocks. Much to Holly and Lucy's dissmay, the river was much too deep and fast flowing for them to go for a swim. There were quite a few people visiting the area but it still felt peaceful and from various points on our way down the views were lovely through the trees.
The caravan site was nice and quiet and the only thing that woke us in the morning was the bird song, there was even a woodpecker in the tree nearby, though he was very elusive and we never did get to see him.
When the patie
nt felt better and was up to it we walked along the river towards Bolton Abbey , the river is shallow in places here and slower so the dogs could have a really good swim and play. Just before arriving at the Abbey ruins we made a stop at the cafe on the riverside for a cup of tea, wishing we had taken a picnic as there were lots of lovely areas to choose from to sit and ponder.There are some shops which sell gifts and local produce and play areas for the children.
Strid Wood Caravan site has all hard standing pitches, some are a little tight, rock pegs are needed for an awning. The facilities are the usual club high standard. The office sells some essential items. The location is quiet and remote and there are no shops/ pubs nearby.
